What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

CrossRoad Church is a member of the Global Methodist Church.
We affirm the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.
Our spiritual heritage comes from the Wesleyan tradition born out
of revival and John Wesley’s “method” of making disciples.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God of God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten,
not made of One Being with the Father;
through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and became truly human.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Bible

We believe the Holy Bible, Old and New Testaments, reveals the Word of God so far as it is
necessary for our salvation and is to be received through the Holy Spirit as the true rule and
guide for faith and practice. (GMC Catechism, Q25-26.)

The Church

We believe the Christian church is the community of all true believers under the Lordship of
Jesus Christ. It is the redemptive fellowship in which the Word of God is preached by those
divinely called, and the sacraments are duly administered according to Christ’s own
appointment. Under the discipline of the Holy Spirit, the church exists for the maintenance of
worship, the edification of believers, and the redemption of the world. (GMC Catechism, Q28- 30.)

Human Nature

We believe humanity is fallen from righteousness and, apart from the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
is destitute of holiness and inclined to evil.
(GMC Catechism Q46.)

God’s justifying grace works by faith to bring reconciliation to God through the atoning sacrifice
of Jesus Christ. The offering Christ freely made on the cross is the perfect and sufficient
sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. Christ’s offering redeems us from all sin, so that no
other satisfaction is required. (GMC Catechism, Q56-58.)

By salvation, we mean more than the promise of eternal life, but a present deliverance from sin, a
restoration of the soul to its original purity; a recovery of the divine nature in righteousness and
true holiness, in justice, mercy, and truth.
(GMC Catechism Q54.)
